Sra. Meli received her BA in Education from St. Catherine's University in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1982. She has been involved in education since she graduated High School in 1979, teaching ESL while pursuing her undergraduate degree. In 1987, Maria came to Kansas City to teach in the Magnet Program started by the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She worked for the district for 10 years, becoming an Implementor and developing a program to teach English Language Arts and Reading to students in the Foreign Language Immersion schools.

In 1982, Maria started her Masters program at the University of Kansas and completed the coursework towards a Masters in Educational Policy and Administration. She was the Principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School until she got married and started a family. At that point Maria worked with a nonprofit organization as Office Manager. In 2001, she accepted a job as Spanish teacher with St. Paul's. In January, 2010, Maria started a Masters in Technology Enhanced Education at MidAmerica Nazarene Univeristy. She  graduated in May, 2011.
